Peru 2012

Kay and I spent two weeks in Peru with Aaron and Yupeng - here are the highlights of the trip! Also, Carl hooked me up with a Lytro to borrow, the pictures are here: https://pictures.lytro.com/kerry/stories/42258.

Ollantaytambo. Tough to climb (at 9200 ft altitude) sickness or no sickness!

  • More Cuzco
  • This rocked.
  • A demonstration of how the Incas and Peruvians create the vivid textiles with natural ingredients.
  • An example of what is used to dye the thread red - Cochineals, or ground up insects - a totally natural dye that Starbucks recently stopped using in Strawberry Frappacinos due to public outcry!
  • Aaron squeezing through a narrow passage way at an Incan sacred site who's name escapes me.
  • Hey baby, how you like these walls?
  • The main cathedral of Cuzco in the setting sun.
  • Local students were practicing for an event the next night - they were all singing and dancing together. We still have no idea exactly what they were doing, nor where they went when they all filed out. But it did look pretty cool.
  • Some sorta valley on the way from Cuzco to the main part of El Valle Sagrado, or the Sacred Valley. I was sick at this point, so I don't remember much about this spot. For instance, I don't remember stopping there. Our color commentator Kay informs me that there is a major fault line visible in the distance. Huh, wish I had seen that live!
  • Goth llama!
  • Kay, forgetting that the food should go in the mouth, not the eye. And I think that the white llama in the background is about to charge Aaron.
  • Goth Llama is so photogenic, isn't he/she?
  • Hey. 'Sup?
  • Can't tell who's enjoying this exchange more.
  • Hey. Llamas and Alpacas are so freakin' expressive!
  • So, yeah, some local kid and her mom. I'm not feeling at all well at this point, and you can kind of tell.
  • Ollantaytambo. Tough to climb (at 9200 ft altitude) sickness or no sickness!
  • "Yeah, so, that's a really steep hill. Ok, let's build a bunch of granaries up there!" - Some Incan
  • Detail of the walls of Ollantaytabmo.
  • Looking back down from part way up Ollantaytambo. It felt much MUCH higher what with my body trying to destroy/eject whatever I had eaten.
