Peru 2012

Kay and I spent two weeks in Peru with Aaron and Yupeng - here are the highlights of the trip! Also, Carl hooked me up with a Lytro to borrow, the pictures are here: https://pictures.lytro.com/kerry/stories/42258.

• Of course, when you're going to climb 1200 veritcal feet, you want to get a few feet more by going down before you go back up.
• Yupeng ran off ahead of us - that's him off in the distance.
• I'm now stalking Kay. Find her in the bushes!
• About to the top - we stopped for a picture, and the woman I an trying to get out of the way of was very annoyed - "Trying to climb here!!!".
• Not the best lighting, but Aaron on a ledge almost at the top of Wayna Picchu - you can see the distance and height over Machu Picchu
• A good view of Machu Picchu, the Hiram Bingham Highway (that the buses take up to Machu Picchu), the actual peak of Machu PIcchu, on the close ridge on the upper left is the sun gate entrance to Machu Picchu on the Inca Trail, and off in the distance (upper right) the snowy peak of Salcantay
• We made it!
• I think the dude in the back is confused.
• Allllllll right.
• Don't you love the helpful "Continue"a arrows? Just slide down this rock, it's totally safe! (And yeah, it was as "drop of a cliff" as it looks)
• That's Aaron's hand, as he claws his way to the very top of Wayna Picchu. (Ok, he was just standing lower and holding on to the rock, as there's not a ton of places to stand out of the way)
• How YOU doin? Super Model Aaron, chill in' on the peak of Wayna Picchu.
• The next four pictures are actually an approved/suggested way to get down from the peak of Wayna Picchu.
• And we're butt sliding…(see last pic and next two pics)
• Kay has decided to just walk, screw this butt slide (see last two pix and next pic)
• And we're down! (See last three pix)
• So this is how you get down. It's just about as steep, wobbly, and no-railing-fall-off-and-perish as it looks in this picture. But perhaps a bit more….visceral. As Kay points out, clearly they don't have lawyers in Peru!
• Yes, we are in fact clinging to the rocks. Our guide? She was hopping around to take the pictures. Man I was not that nimble.
• Yeah, so, more stairs, and note how small they are relative to my feet. And rough. And sometimes wobbly.

It was awesome.
• A nice overview of Machu Picchu
