Peru 2012

Kay and I spent two weeks in Peru with Aaron and Yupeng - here are the highlights of the trip! Also, Carl hooked me up with a Lytro to borrow, the pictures are here: https://pictures.lytro.com/kerry/stories/42258.

• Yeah, I'm a bit embarassed to say how tightly I was gripping that rope, but check out the stairs here.

But the whole Wayna Picchu experience was flipping awesome - we're talking highlight of the trip here.
• Another shot of Wayna Picchu - the climb goes up the face that is on the left of the picture, in shadows - the peak is the spot in the upper left.
• Kay signing out in the log book - only 400/day are allowed to climb! (If you zoom in, don't you love that I couldn't even write my own name on the first try?)
• That's a stupid grin, but hey, I made it up & back! (Again, awesome - totally worth it, although admittedly strenuous)
• Zoom shot of the peak of Wayna Piccho - you can see the crazy terracing on the left side as well as in the center, and you can just see people on the various points at the top.
• We're feeling pretty smug at this point, after having conquered Wayna Picchu
• A shot of the approache to the main square, and the room of three windows and the spot where the Intihuatana stone is.
• The sun bleached map outside the entrance
• Babushka!!!

So, they have fashion shows on the trains in Peru - literally they start playing music, and the employees use the aisle way as the runway and model - Kay loved the alpaca scarf, and was trying it on.

And purchased it. Dammit, PeruRail, didn't you have enough from my wallet?
• Aaron looks…doubtful. We've got full duelling banjos, err, books here, in the lobby of our hotel in Cusco - trying to figure out what to do on our free day
• The Central Market in Cusco - I didn't get many pictures inside, as a lot of vendors didn't want us to take any pictures, but man…it was huge, and you could buy entire cow heads. Wow.
• Inside the Mercado Central in Cusco - Kay felt like we were in an episode of No Reservations, Anthony Bourdain's show (and he was actually in this market when he was in Peru!)
• Tons of fruit….and a Kay.
• Our Cuy Confit at lunch. This was our taste of the Peruvian staple - guinea pig. Yep, they eat guinea pig (called "Cuy", pronounced "qweee"). Normally they just deep fry it whole, but we went for something a bit more western. Yupeng, on the other hand, had a deep fried Cuy. Not his favorite dish to say the least.
• Kay, about to beat me with our rolled up painting in the Plaza de San Blas in Cusco
• Awwww….
• Freakin awesome door knocker on the Pre Columbian museum in Cusco
• A shot of the Plaza de Armas (central plaza) in Cusco, with the Church of la Compañía de Jesus in the background. (and Starbucks is the wooden frame balcony on the left, with the Starbucks logo just out of the frame on the left, of course)
• Another shot of Starbucks (Left, second floor wooden balcony) and the Church of la Compañía de Jesus
• There we go. Now we feel at home. And we're pretty sure that the sign underneath the Starbucks logo means "No honking".
